External AC Diode?

Hi All,

I'm in the early stage of restoring a 92 RS 305 TBI and have a question. I came across a two conductor electrical connector that is completely fried located in the front of the engine in the same wiring harness as the AC. But there is no place I can find to plug it in? Haynes wiring diagram does not show anything remotely close to this...

Can an this be an external diode for the AC compressor?

Thanks,
Ron

No. The diode is spliced and taped in place from the factory.

Re: External AC Diode?

Looks like that is the connector busted off of a clutch. Disconnect it and command the AC on while you have a test light connected to this connector. My bet is it will light up when you command the AC on.

correct, the diode is the black tube about 3" rearward of the connector. The only fix I know is a new A/C compressor.

Lurbie,

The system is not charged so can I still command the AC on and do the diagnostic as you describe?

Re: External AC Diode?

Thanks to all for your help. The mystery has been solved. The connector is indeed the one that goes to the clutch on the front of the compressor. It actually took a second set of eyes to point that out to me...

Thanks again for the help.

Ron

Glad you got it figured out. To answer your question though, yes you could still test it the way I described, but you would have to temporarily disconnect the Low Pressure Cutout switch and bypass it with a jumper wire on the harness connector.
