Cheapest way to delete vats
Cheapest way to delete vats
Ok. I am almost sure the vats module is bad. What is the cheapest way to delete it and get my 1992 firebird started again. The history..
I got the car from its death bed with no KEY. The ignition cylinder was broke and did not need a key. After buying a 15 pack of resistors and taking the time to insert one resistor every 5 minutes to start the car. I finally got the car started. it turned out to be the key code 8.
Well about 2 weeks ago I finally had time to start working on the car again. Went out to start the car and nothing. NO starter and no fuel. So I ordered a new ignition cylinder and replaced it. No luck. car still will not start. So I decided to try a new resistor with no luck. So I don't want to get a new key cut for the new cylinder until i figure out why it will not start..
Security light will come on and then goes off. I did change the resistor to another one with the incorrect value. The security light comes on and doesn't go away. But once I change out the resistor to the correct one the security light goes out. but still can not start the car. So I have come to the conclusion that I want this system gone. So back to my question. Whats the cheapest way to delete the vats all together...

I am pretty sure you'll have to get a custom tune to turn it off in the ECM at this point. I haven't done this yet, but I know that plenty of other members will be able to suggest good people to help you with the tune.

After reading some other post here on this wonderful board I think a reflash may be in order..
I just got off of eBay and ordered this bypass.

I will just have to buy one less 12 pack of beer this payday.
will post a reply to let everyone know if it works..
