1989 TPI 350 Sometimes Doesn't Start
1989 TPI 350 Sometimes Doesn't Start
Good day one and all. I come looking for your thoughts and assistance. I drive a 1989 Firebird 350. Sometimes the car doesn't want to start. If I try it a couple of times cold it will finally turn over. But when it is hot it really doesn't want to run. I've read on several posts and they all point to the fuel pump, fuel pump relay or the inline fuse. Well I just replaced the fuel pump and it is working correctly. I get plenty of fuel up to the rail.
Now I should let you know that I was working on my car two hours away with the family over the holiday weekend and the pump died. When the pump died we replaced it and then I couldn't get power to the pump. I couldn't figure out what was going on so we finally just ran a hot wire from the box to the pump. We could then get gas to the front, but the injectors wouldn't run. I finally thought to splice the wire backwards to see if the injectors ran off the same line. It does... It worked. Car started and ran.
Now I am thinking back to were I read the inline fuse supplies power to the injectors. Below are three pictures of what I believe to be the inline fuse everyone is referring to? If so do I have to cut the wire out and put a whole new one in because I can't find a way to pull anything out for replacement or is there something I am missing? I should mention when it is cold I did check and if I crank it for a couple of seconds the oil pressure will drop then rise and the car will finally fire.
I am really tired of fighting this ghost issue as it always comes in the worst times. Please advise if I am heading in the correct direction or not.
