Correct original positive battery cable
Correct original positive battery cable
I'm trying to find GM 12157285. It's the positive battery cable that is a 1-piece and Ys off to the alternator and starter.
GM lists it disco and I can't seem to find a *correct* replacement online. They are all black cables or don't have the correct shaped battery connector.
Someone at some point mentioned to me the ACDELCO replacement is 4SD35XA but that can't be it, it's not even correct for going to the alternator and starter, never mind it's black instead of red too, errrrr, who the **** makes a black positive battery cable!
Anyone know where to get these? I want it either NOS or EXACTLY like it was originally please. I had an NOS one and like an idiot I sold it a few years ago
Any leads I'd really appreciate it! I've emailed Hawk's twice and they won't respond for a used one

Re: Correct original positive battery cable

I'm wrong though, it only goes to the alternator from the battery and to that other connector, so that is the right cable physically, just not the right color.

Re: Correct original positive battery cable
I have never seen an original GM positive battery cable that is/was red. Only the protective cover surrounding the terminal is red.
I believe that the red terminal cover can be removed from the cable once the bolt is removed. It appeared that this was the case when I replaced a stripped battery terminal bolt on mine.
If you have your old cable you can just remove the cover and swap it onto the new cable. If you don't have your old cable it should be easy enough to find one at the salvage yard. Most all GM cars came from the factory with red terminal covered cables. Just bring your cable cutters with you.

They have it in several colors including the
red you are looking for.
It is a rubber-like coating that will not peel, crack or deteriorate, and it will add to the insulation value.

Dude - that ain't NUTHIN' !! People are CRAZY about their rides !
Once; I saw this guy literally jump in the air when he found the 'correct' fuel line clips for his ride at a swap meet. "Factory original" doesn't mean the same thing to everyone !

I might have a used one too. There were at least 4-5 different battery cables used over the years. At the least I'd need a picture of yours to compare and a couple measurements would help too.
