New guy needs a hand

My brother and I just picked up a 1992 Firebird today. We got it for a great price, but it's not without it's problems. In the engine compartment, on the drivers side there is a large square hole cut into the firewall. I found a large plug that appears to have had many wires connecting through it, cut off and in the trunk. Now that hole is filled with same color (dark blue) wires that the previous owner appears to have wired himself. When confronted about it he said the plug melted, and he just bypassed it and ran wires to wires. After removing all unnecessary speaker wires he wired up for an amp, and sub, I have found that many, many things do not work. Now, I consider myself to be pretty handy, but if there's one type of work that I absolutely do not know, it's wiring. I cant read a wiring diagram to save my life. So far, here are the problems we have found.

- The trunk latch has some kind of electronic locking mechanism that just buzzes loudly and non stop when the trunk lid is closed

- the cooling fan just simply doesn't work. I tried using a test light on the plug, and it doesn't seem to be getting any juice.

- The windshield wipers only move up the windshield about an inch, then back down. Pretty sure the motor is shot.

- The windshield washing fluid pump doesn't work

- The ECM, while wired up, is sitting on the passenger side floor lol

- The blower motor doesn't work

- The horn doesn't work

I accredit most of these problems to the amateur wiring job. Now, I would like you guys' opinions on what would be the best way to go about solving these issues. What is the connection that he bypassed even called? Will I need a new harness? I need help lol. Thanks

OK first think buy a Haynes manual for the model car you have. Ten to twenty bucks at the Auto parts store maybe cheaper at book store. Will have wiring diagrams anyone can read as well as locations of stuff and how to repairs and troubleshooting.

Google painless wiring for a harness or check on Hawks third gen.

Therefore a Haynes manual might not help him.

So on this post BTYM I will deal with the fan not working, it’s priority.

Apply 12 volts directly to the fan with a couple of jumper wires to the battery.

If it won’t run the fan motor is defective.

If it does run remove the jumpers and make sure the fan is grounded.

Then using a voltmeter or test light
(the type for testing for voltage, not a continuity tester) see if there is power on the orange wire at the fan relay.

The Fan Relay is to the left of the Brake Booster.

It’s the relay nearest the left fender.

So, what were the results of the above?

As to the hatch pull-down buzzing, you can temporarily unplug the unit until it is diagnosed, so it won’t drain the battery.

Happy Racing !
