Reverse lights

I have a 88 sport coupe that was a v6 5 speed. The po did a v8 swap and changed the engine and headlight harness. He had a 88 v8 car that was auto and used everything to change under the hood from the auto car.So I dont have the wires in under the console to tap into and nothing under the hood. How is the best way to wire it up?

Re: Reverse lights

When your car was a factory build manual tranny car the wiring for the reverse lights ran from the tranny plug, in the engine harness, thru the firewall, in the dash harness, and back to the Reverse Lights.

If the previous owner replaced the original engine wiring harness with an automatic engine harness - the auto harness will not have the reverse light wiring on the engine side of the firewall. ( the wiring should still be in place at the dash side of C100 )

Here is a picture of the 88 C100 firewall plug:

You will need to get a neutral safety switch plug and then run the Green & Blue reverse light wires from the Neutral Safety Switch to the 'B5' and 'C4' C100 pins on the dash harness side of C100. Simply cut those 2 wires from C100 (under the dash - drivers side) and splice them into the 2 wires leading from the NSS and your reverse lights should work again.

I've got a spare NSS plug & pigtail if you still need one,.... $8 shipped.

Good luck !

Re: Reverse lights

NOT the clutch pedal wiring. I'm assuming that your car MUST already have a auto neutral safety switch plug - just not sure how it's currently wired. The cars PO must have already re-wired the 'starter interlock' wiring from stick to auto or the car wouldn't start for you.

Is there a plug connected to the automatic shifter ??

Basically; As an auto,.... you don't need the 2 reverse light wires running into the engine bay. Those 2 wires need to be run to the automatic shifter instead.
