Electric Hatch Release
I have problems with my electric hatch release - Sometimes when I openmy hatch, either via the switch or the key and the hatch releases, but the pull down mechanism does not always rise up so I cannot close the hatch again..
After stripping away panel I manage to get it again so I can close the hatch, but I worry that this will happen when I am out and about.
Any ideas about what could be causing this and is it possible to convert it to a manual opening mechanism to prevent this from happening again?

Re: Electric Hatch Release
The title of your post is misleading. Your problem is with the pull-down unit, not the hatch release. There can be several causes for the problems you are experiencing. Take a look at the repair instructions I wrote on TGO, verify that you have power at the red/white stripe wire that plugs into the blue wire. Verify that the guides, gear nut and plastic motor housing are all good.
Both the striker sensing switch (which is pushed by the hatch hook when you close the hatch) and the reversing switch (attached to the motor) can cause the problems you are experiencing. After you have verified the parts I mentioned call me for instructions how to test the reversing switch.

Lou
Thank you for the advice. My car is currently off the road for winter (battery will need charging). Nearer the time I will run the checks you suggest and then contact you.
Regards
Tim
