VERY intermittant No crank No start problem
Car is a 1989 Iroc-Z 5.7 with a 5speed swap. Last winter the same thing happened, new battery and new starter (reman) seemed to have fixed the problem. Then, yesterday morning, stopped at Hy-Vee for gas. Filled up, sat down and turned the key, nothing. I thought, "Oh no, don't do this again." Turned the key a second time, starts right up. Then we stopped at Krispy Kreme, ate some donuts, praised the Camaro for being awesome as we walked toward it and the Z would not start. No click, no crank, no nothing. Checked fuses, all good, checked clutch switch, all good. Still nothing. Krispy Kreme happens to be on a hill, won't even push start. Left it and had it towed. Go to look at it today, starts right up, everything is happy as can be. Several restarts, same thing, perfect.
I love this car, I really do. I can't keep going around and around with repairs like I have been though. Is my starter really bad after less than a year? Is there something really dumb that I'm overlooking? I would say it was the cold weather, but the damn thing was warm from driving around all morning. And it was a lot colder just now when it started with no problem. Please help!

Re: VERY intermittant No crank No start problem
VATs (Vehicle Anti-Theft) is tripping, which kills the starter and the fuel intector pulse. Thats why it didnt click or crank (no starter signal), and why it wouldnt push-start (No fuel). Either your ignition cylinder isnt reading the key's chip properly or the vats module is failing. Most likely the former.
Easiest thing to do is to use a multimeter to read the resisitance of your key's chip, go to radio shack and buy that resisitor. disconnect the connector under your steering column. Its a small black connector with 2 small white wires going into it each side. Jump the two wires on the firewall side with the resisitor.
