Speedo swapping

Has anyone swapped the mechanical speedo for an electronic unit? I would really like to do this so any tips would help as far as what is needed electronic wise.

That info would probably help eh?

The car is an 83 Trans Am with a 305 auto. The speedo is cable driven. The speedo I want to install is a 140 speedo from an 87 GTA and is electronic.
