spark plug wiring

alright my friends... i have an issue with the wires for spark plugs. i did a simple tune up....rotor, cap, plugs, fuel filter since i had a problem with a bog down in the car... i did not change the wires at first.... i started the car and took it on a drive and found another problem on the car. when i put my foot in the gas pedal, pressing 3/4 of the way to the floor, or to the floor the car would stutter and struggle to keep rpm and power. i took it to a friend and he said "well the plug wires look like crap and are pretty shot, you should replace those. i took his advice and changed out the plug wires. so heres where the question comes in. i thought to myself...gee, i should probably mark these off with tape and number them so when i put them on, everything works right. then i thought, well ill take them off one at a time and replace them. (bad idea) so i took the number one wire off...then eight off...now this is where it gets funky, the standard 305 fire order is 18436572 as i took off the next three i noticed it wasnt right. the fire order was wrong. i thought that was strange and before i could realise what i did.... i forgot the order i took them off in then i thought, well ill just replace the wires...1 starts at the 5'oclock position so i will start there... 18436572 counter clock wise, got everything installed and ready to go... went to start the car and it sounded wrong and definitely out of wack. a chug chug sound...i tried again and got it started...but only for about 15 seconds before it stops. tried again to start it and it makes the noise of when a car is out of battery... rum rum rum rum.... the battery is fine i know for sure. it will turn over a few times like normal then do the chug sound like its having a hell of a time turning the piston. okay so back to the drawing board. did some research that said number one may not be aligned with tdc...so i found tdc....adjusted the 1 wire on the cap so that it lines up with tdc. made sure all plugs were firmly in, all caps pulled off and reput back on so the "snap" can be heard on both spark plugs and cap. turned the key to the same thing...havent been able to get it started again like the one time...hope i didnt mess something up inside the engine x.x is there a way to find my firing order? im trying to contact the last owner...he has been a bit of a help since he jerry rigged most of the car and you have to do certain things to get it to work...hate him for that but it is what it is... also another question is, do the wires have to be the same as far as length... the ones i took off were labeled for each number piston...the replacement wires are not labeled. 7 is obiously the shortest but #3 and 1 ar pretty far away there are about 5 different length plugs i tried to match to each plug but i dont think they are the same.
