Headlight Module issues...

Hello, I have read info on here about the 87-89 headlight modules and the 90-92(2002) modules not interchanging. My '87 has a bad module(have to tap it to work). I have 2 90 modules from boneyard. Has anyone played with the wiring or know of a thread i can read where someone put a later on in an 87-89? I mean there is the option to take mine apart and check solder joints... I also took austin's wiring diagrams and mirrored them. the only difference in wiring i see is the wiring to the light motors. In relation to the wires coming out of the module, the wires are reversed where the lettered designation is. any ideas?

Re: Headlight Module issues...

Now that I have a little time, i'm going to play around with the module/motor setup. my theory is if i'm at the yard and find a module and motors from a parts car, about $40, i can bolt it up and it should work like a 90-92. Just make sure the wiring is routed the same out of the switch/fuse. then the wiring to the motors needs to be correct out of the module in relation to the pin locations. The reason i'm doing this is they changed the design for a reason, i'm assuming it's a more reliable part. i'll post back results.

Re: Headlight Module issues...

It might not be the module. I had a similar issue and swapped out my module but still had the issue on occasion. Long story short, the issue was not the module. It was the wire harness plugging into the module. It was old and needed to be jiggled to make the module work. I replaced the plug and haven't had the issue return.

ah i missed a step in the KISS method! thank you! i will gently wiggle each wire individually. My initial test was a light tap on the module. But that could be masking a loose wire connection. I'll report back...

FIXED! Re: Headlight Module issues...

ok, so after a few other issues i've been sorting out, i finally got back to this issue. I want to thank all the suggestions!!! I did find a loose connection at the module connector. I simply took a pick and tightened the female ends and havn't had the problem. Thanks again!!!

Yes. Start easy and work up. I fiddled with mine too for ages before finding a bad ground wire near the battery. Several things suddenly worked again after fixing it.

Re: Headlight Module issues...

still have trouble with the connection at the module. i wonder if it's a loose pin at the module? i'm gonna try pinching the connectors again.
