No injector pulse

89 pontiac GTA 5.7Please

help. It started out a while back with no start then no crank.did the resistor to replace key trick, bypassed starter enable relay thought I was good then no start again.cranks OK,has spark,no injector pulse,no codes present and all sensors in range, battery voltage good.I believe I've located the vats and attaching pic to verify that's it and its authenticity. I got a bud bringing an oscilloscope. I've read I should be looking for a 40hz 5vdc sq pulse wave.I want to know if thats accurate, where to check it and if thats good how to verify ecm and icm input/outputs or any advice on which direction to go,thanks anybody.

Re: No injector pulse

The item in your picture is the "VSS Buffer" , and not the "VATS module"

Re: No injector pulse

Sounds like maybe a shorted injector. Unplug one at a time and try to fire it off. If it starts and runs with one unplugged then you found the short.

Re: No injector pulse

So glad somebody is responding but it is all injectors not just one. I figure it's either has to be the vats module the computer or the ignition module but I do not know how to test between the three

Re: No injector pulse

I believe the spark AND injector pulse are both triggered off the distributor pickup coil. If you have spark the distributor and module are likely OK. Will it fire off if you spray carb cleaner directly into the intake? If one injector is shorted down I believe it will mess up the whole circuit.

Re: No injector pulse

If you used resistors to bypass the VATS, why did you bypass the starter disable relay? It sounds to me like you still have a VATS issue.

When dealing with VATS you do one of two things to bypass it. If it's an issue with the key/lock cylinder you use the resistor. If the module is dead or some wiring is damaged you need to bypass the starter relay and either trick the ECM into thinking the VATS is there, or delete the VATS from the chip. If adding the resistors didn't solve the issue, then bypassing the starter relay is only half of what you need to do to get the car to start. Your symptoms still match with having a VATS issue.
