Cigarette lighter short in 86 Camaro
Hello everyone this is my first post on this forum as a I just purchased my first ever 3rd Gen F-Body Camaro last night. my issue is the my father's friend that I purchased the car from had pushed in the cigarette lighter shortly before I arrived and it blew the acc fuse when he tried to replace it and blew it again, long story short I bought the car and I took off the small dash piece and disconnected the cigarette lighter and then I was able to plug in the ACC fuse without issues. My question is how to I make my cigarette lighter not short out my acc fuse so I can use my phone charger and radar detector, thank you.

Welcome to TGO. If its the original cigarette lighter plug I would keep it simple and cheap by just replacing the whole thing with a new one. You can pick the whole assy up from any auto parts store or even walmart for under 10 bucks. It doesnt take long for the originals to wear out and start shorting out. Replaced mine a couple of months ago with a chrome one that is back-lit.....took all of 20 minutes and cost under $10. No more blowing fuses.

Could you point me in the direction of what part I would need is it the part that you plug your accessories into (phone chargers etc.) or does the wiring beyond that need replaced?

Here is a link to one of many that will work for your car. Instructions on how to change it out can be found on youtube or even here on TGO if you search. Even the instructions the lighter and outlet will come with will work.
