Where does this piece go?!

So, for some reason my LED shorted my radio fuse out, its been fine for about 4 years now... I'm going to redo the stripped and taped parts just to be safe, but I don't see an obvious reason. Anyways when I took off the whole underside plastic part that covers the wires you know the one with 3 clips, a little orange piece fell out of it... It says 7 PED on it and it's a like a little cross/tombstone looking orange piece, what is this?!

I'm still looking everywhere online but am not finding anything. I need to know where to put this back into lol!

It is a lock for male female wire plug somewhere in there, since it fell out it probably has been loose in there for a while. The plug where it goes may have been removed long ago.

Re: Where does this piece go?!

Does it cause any shorting or damage not having it in there? Any ideas as to what plugs it could go to? What do you mean by "locks" it? As in, it keeps a connection between the two plugs?

Re: Where does this piece go?!

It shouldn't cause any damage by not being in there, assuming the related plugs are in good condition. These locks are used as a backup for the clips on the plug to keep them from getting pulled out by accident. If the clips on the related plugs are not damaged, you should be fine without the lock.

Re: Where does this piece go?!

Do you by chance know where this one might go? What would be a typical plug that would have one. I mean... I scowered the entire underside and I couldn't see anything that was missing something. All my plugs were together as far as I could see.

I've seen these clips on everything from radio power connectors to oxygen sensors. They're generally on the larger/more important plugs though.

x2

These are called a CPA (connector position assurance) and are used to lock two mating connector bodies together. On safety circuits such as airbags, they may also disengage shorting bars within the connector. I didn't see mention of what car you have, and it's not in your profile yet, but on older vehicles like ours, it may not be necessary. On much newer vehicles, it is critical to the proper operation of the connection.
