Ignition Locked up...
So I did search around and found a few other people had this problem but seems everyone goes off topic/or figures it out and never mentions what it is. So heres the deal I have a 1984 Camaro 305 Carb. Car was starting fine and then one day I put the keys in the ignition and the key will not turn from the lock position. Yes cars in park the steering wheels locked and i even tried moving the steering wheel left and right and nothing. The car will not turn from the lock position. Just bought powered graphite and made a spare key to see if thats the problem and nothing... What could be the problem?

Re: Ignition Locked up...
Sounds like a stuck tumbler (possibly just failed, too) due to age/use/dirt.
Sometimes just tapping the key in the cylinder with a hammer (gently) can get the tumbler to drop to turn the cyl.
Dry (powdered) graphite will not help much. A light spray of oil (graphite) is generally better to release a stuck tumbler as it can wick down/around the tumbler.
A light spray of lube, rake the tumblers with the key a few times (insert innuendo joke here), and a few taps (key out) *may* get the cyl to turn.
Trying the key at various points in (barely pulling key out.. ½ mm.. from normal turning, in steps) sometimes works to. Over time the key shoulder can wear and you are basically pushing the key in to far (bad key copies are more suspect than originals).
The cyl tumbler(s) may have just physically failed do to age as well. Replacement is the better option in that case.
A chance the link bar from the key cyl to ign switch failed as well.

Re: Ignition Locked up...
Yes thank you that tumbler locked up went out bought a new one and it works my only problem now is when the key is turned it wont crank or nothing. Is this due to mispostioning the ignition switch?
