Ignition No Power

Looking for ideas to start tracing a no power issue. 85 2.8 sport coupe no bells or whistles The car ran great, daily driver (20 miles each way) no intermittent CEL to warn of possible issue. There was no work done done other than a coil and dizzy cap and plug wires back in May of this year, the exception fluid/filter change (August).

The only thing right now I know that works is headlights/running lights. No brake/hazard lights. Key on, no lights ie:CEL,oil. Jumped the ALDL, still nothing.

The only thing I have to go one right now is a hard start with either starter noise or Distributer noise during the start, ran great, shut down then nothing.

A visual check of inline fuses, underhood and fuse block in car all appear to be ok but will retest with test light and meter when time permits.

I have a spare ECM but im extremely weary of swapping them without having a better idea whats going on first. Planning on dropping the starter tomorrow to have benched tested.

Any ideas would be helpful.

Re: Ignition No Power

The ECM doesn't have anything to do with the lack of power (voltage) to the car.

Jack up the right front corner of the car and check the fusible links at the starter. It'll be one of them.

RBob.

Re: Ignition No Power

FIXED, On Fusible link was completely severed due to heat from the exhaust. The other was well on its way to going out. The protective insulation was disolored and craked in a couple of spots.

Replaced both with dorman 14 gauge kits, dielectric grease and heat shrink.

Thanks RBob for the invaluable help.
