Ok, so somehow a piece broke on my manifold ( the vac line from the brake booster connects to an inlet at the rear of the manifold). Does anybody know what the heck this piece is caled? 1988 2.8 firebird

Sweet just nipple or manifold nipple? Mine is similar but is shaped like a T

 

That's all it is....nipple. Just get the right size for the hose and treadsize

If it's shaped like a Tee, It may have another vac hose attach to it. Check your Vacuum Diagram and make sure. They do make Tee fittings.

 

it is a Tee and no parts store carries it...so J B Weld to the rescue!

 

Here's a photo of what the Birdman needs . I haven't got a spare but if you post a wanted ad down in the "for sale/wanted" section I'll bet someone has got one . Any nearby junkyards (now called "Automobile Recyclers" in politically correct nonsense speech) in your area ? I'll bet more than just 3rd gens used this T fitting , since way more cars used the 2.8 other than our cars .

Repaint or scrub half? If so it looks good! This is the " repaired " pic of it, but jb weld didn't want to hold the two pieces ( yes, i cleaned the area where jb weld was put with sandpaper) so i am in dire need. I'll make an ad and i have checked the yards around. All that had any 2.8's have been crushed, so nothing as of yet. I have an ad on CL as well but no luck there yet.

 

Believe it or not that was just with a very soft wire wheel that you use on a small electric drill . I of course did the other side after the picture and it really looks good . As to your fitting , Kudos for the JB weld attempt , I do believe you that you cleaned it well , It's just that there are some things I've found that JB won't stick to very well . Don't dispair , Im sure someone has got one of those in the "for sale/wanted" section and if not , here's one more possible suggestion ; If this can't be found , how about looking at the "help" rack in your local autoparts store for a threaded nipple of the right size that isn't a T fitting , just a straight single nipple , and then use a short length of hose to connect from that to a "regular" T fitting (3 hose connections with no threaded end) . Both of those should be able to be sourced and although somewhat physically uglier , it would get you back on the road till the proper T can be found . Remember , of the two hoses , one is the power brakes and the other is the heat/AC control so if a straight single nipple is all that you can find , using that to get the brakes working would get you driving again , just with the HVAC system stuck always on defrost with the heater control valve always supplying hot coolant to the heater core (this is the "default" position of the HVAC if it looses it's source of controlling vacuum)

Thanks i have looked at 3 different part stores in help section and nada next stop is home depo natural gas line tee's to see if i can score some kind of fix. I'll keep you updated. Currently still driving it thanks to the help of Duct tape lmao! Just have to change it a lot due to heat of the motor but seems to be going ok temp. I feel so trashy doing that

 

Well was tired of duct tape so i went and bought self sealing silicon tape rated from -65 to +500 degrees. should hold it for now!
