Faulty Fuel Pump? HELP!

Ok so my 1991 firebird 3.1l won't start. It cranks, I'm pretty sure it's getting spark. What it for sure isn't getting is fuel.

I attached a fuel pressure tester to the fuel rail and got absolutely 0 psi. The first thing I did was use spare wire to bypass the fuel relay while the car was in ACC mode. The fuel pump didn't start. I couldn't hear it and we still had 0 psi on the reading.

I pulled the fuse (which is still intact) and replaced it with a multi-meter. We got 11.5v. So I assume that means the cables running to/through the fuel pump are intact and that I have a bad fuel pump. Does that sound correct to you guys?

Resistance from the fuse port is all over the place but it looks like some of the time it favors 25-26 ohms but it also goes into the negatives for some reason.

I'm about to drop the fuel tank and start replacing the fuel pump. If I missed something or you too think it's the fuel pump please let me know. I'm not the most knowledgeable when it comes to this stuff.

Thanks

Re: Faulty Fuel Pump? HELP!

If you don't hear the fuel pump prime and when you give it 12 volts and it still won't start - it's the pump. I've had to replace two - on my '88 and '91. Gey it up as high as you can and drop the axle as low as you can. I had to remove the exhaust both times. Good luck.

Re: Faulty Fuel Pump? HELP!

Since this is also the car that the check engine light won't come on , have you checked the fender mounted fuse that sends power to both the pump and the ECM ?

PS , It's best to try to include as many of the symptoms as possible in one thread , that's your best chance of someone being able to help . Had I not happened to see your other thread I'd have not known BOTH your fuel pump AND CEL are inoperative ....

yes The Fuse by the radiator overflow is 20a and still intact. I tested it with a multi meter and it was getting 11.5 volts.

Re: Faulty Fuel Pump? HELP!

Replacing the fuel pump while not hard is a long job. Just to be sure raise the rear end up on jack stands and on the under body behind the rear seats and in front of the fuel tank is a connector, disconnect that and apply a power and ground directly to it to make sure the pump doesn't work. Doing this will remove all wiring/fuse/relay/connector/ecm related problems.
