Headlight issue

I just bought a 91 firebird and the headlights are not functioning properly. They attempt to raise but are unable to lift all the way up. They come about halfway up. The lights are working fine. Is there an adjustment to the motor that will correct this?

Re: Headlight issue

The hard OEM gel bushings inside the gear within the motor are broken into just chunks. You need to repair the headlight motors using a headlight repair kit:

Once you have repaired the motors using the Delrin bushings your problem will be solved.

I lubed up the tracks on the headlights and they work perfect.

Re: Headlight issue

Evilokc, I suggest that you get the delrin bushings in the link that Lon provided above. Its not a matter of if, but when, the stock bushings crumble and your headlights fail to rise again. Its an easy fix.

Re: Headlight issue

I'm sure they will fail but "fixing" them when they work great is like buying new tires when mine are fine because they will wear out eventually. when they crash and I know they will I will rebuild em but I lubed them in april and they are still working great. there are parts of my car that are broken Like the heat that get my immediate attention

Re: Headlight issue

I see no problem in waiting to fix them until they begin to fail. I'd only caution when they do begin to act erratically don't wait too long. If you wait until they no longer will raise with a few flips of the headlight switch or by manually cranking the top ****, you have now turned a one-person job into a two-person job. Now someone else will have to turn on/off the headlight switch as you bang on the headlight bucket and shake it until it FINALLY decides to raise up suddenly. Again, no problem with waiting to do the repair. I'll be here with the kit when you decide you finally need it.
