Neutral Safety Switch and Vats

Does anyone know if a bad Neutral safety switch would cause the security light to come on and cause no crank?

Some real weird s*** is happening with my starting system. I just installed a new starter knowing it was bad, but I am still getting no crank and a solid security light.

Yesterday morning I was talking to a friend that was over and he said try cranking in neutral. I put the key in and it cranked/started and no security light. Problem solved right? Well, later when I got home from work I tried it and no crank and a light again. I mean...WTF? The car is a 1990 Firebird Formula 305 TPI. An alarm system with remote start was installed years ago and that's not even allowing a crank. Getting frustrated.

Here's what I've done so far:
New Battery - fully charged and tight cables
New starter - jumped and working
Jumped starter relay - new one on order
Vats resistor bypass

The neutral switch and VATS are independent but there’s no telling what the PO might have done.

You can eliminate the neutral switch as a cause of the no-start by jumping it until you get the car running right.

Happy Racing !
