Intellitronix digital gauges and cruise control
So I bought a set of the intellitronix digital LED gauges ( I'm a sucker for digital gauges but I didn't want the headache of finding a stock one and swapping it in). Being that my car is an 85, I have a cable driven speedometer that ALSO has some sort of VSS system that feeds input to the cruise module, I think its some sort of optical pickup behind the gauge cluster...thats what I'm assuming from googling, anyway, my FSM is vague on the subject or I'm just not looking in the right place. Anyway, Intellitronix sends a VSS to install in your cable driven trans but there is no instruction on what to do if you have this type of Frankenstein mess. I would prefer to do away with a cable altogether and just use sensors but I don't know if this is practical. I don't care if I use the sensor that came with the intellitronix kit or not, I'd actually much prefer if I didn't as its probably proprietary and will do me no good finding a replacement when it kicks the bucket. Any ideas?
Re: Intellitronix digital gauges and cruise control
I have the Intellitronix gauges in my 82 and 86 TAs.
In my 82 the speedo cable goes thru the cruise control transducer in the engine bay and then up to the cluster. The speedo generates a 2000ppm signal for the ecu.Im going on the assumption that your 85 is the same setup. If you remove the cables you have lost cruise the ecu signal. If you use the included speed sensor to run the dash you still have get a signal to the ecu. You could you a SGI-5e from Dakota Digital to convert the 8k signal from the speed sensor to 2k for your ecu.
I left the cables in place and stripped a speedo back to the spinning disk. The SGI-5e can then convert the 2k signal to 8k for the dash. Pretty simple really.
