Wiper Motor Replacement
Camaro wiper motor replacement
tools needed; part description
Small flat tip: Electrical connections (2)
screw driver
1/2" socket: Wiper transmission arm to motor nut
10mm socket: Wiper motor to firewall retaining bolts
extension and
nut driver
T20 torx: Plastic motor cover
The Plastic debris screen can be removed after the right side wiper arm is removed. So, lift the arm and with a screw driver move the tab out ( it should slide easily ) and lift the arm off the wiper spindle. Remove the one or two screws and pop the screen off. The whole job ( for a newbie like me ) took maybe an hour.
1. Remove Wiper transmission arm to motor nut. Tap "lightly" on the arm
with a hammer to loosen arm. Remove the arm.
2. Unplug hoses from washer pump ( noting which one is the outlet hose )
and electrical connection to the motor with a screw driver.
3. Remove the three Wiper motor to firewall retaining bolts. Be careful to
not lose these small bolts and watch that the motor doesn't fall away
from the firewall.
4. Remove the motor and disconnect the second electrical connection on
underside of motor.
5. Remove the two rubber bushings ( There are three but the one with the
grounding strap should came with the new motor ), the foam rubber motor
to firewall seal and the rubber cap that fits over the wiper shaft.
6. Remove and transfer the plastic motor cover and washer pump.
7. Transfer rubber bushings and foam rubber seal to the new motor.
8. Connect lower electrical connection.
9. Holding the motor in place, start the upper right bolt, then upper left bolt,
followed by the lower bolt. ( That lower bolt is not easy to get to and
you will need to be careful not to loose it). Then equally tighten the bolts.
10. Fit the rubber shaft cover in place and re-attach the arm to the shaft.
Oh yah, put the screen and wiper arm back in place after a test run. Like as if you'd forget that. Enjoy
