Coil replaced and still stuttering
Coil replaced and still stuttering
So....all the gauges in my console blew out the other week. Replaced the fuse and once i got over 3k rpms, the fuse blew again. Relaced the ignition coil last night and now all gauges are good, but here's the problem. Before the fuse blew, the car would back fire like a damn Tommy gun when i took my foot off the accelerator. When it blew, the car idoled high but NO back firing ever occurred. Now the coil is replaced and the car didnt back fire much, but it's acting like it aint gettin any gas. It idols painfully low under 1k rpms and doesnt accelerate well and stutters even at high and even speeds. It stuttered like crazy when we replaced the distributor cap and didn't tighten it down all the way so i checked the cap when i got to work and there is no play....
I read online that someone had the same problem and drove the car for about 45 minutes and next day the car ran like a champ.....idk what else to do.
When she starts, she's hesitant to get goin, but starts every time. Always had this problem though. Some times she starts up RIGHT away no issues.

You might want to tell what car, engine and fuel system is in use. Also divorced coil or coil in cap HEI or for that matter, what ignition system, stock or after market? It's much easier to know than guess! HTH!

Its 86 firebird. V6 2.8l. Fuel injected. Divorced coil. I believe stock ignition.

From the information you give, the gauge fuse is common to the MAF sensor and is the only thing on that circuit that would give you a drivability problem. Not saying that some other component isn't bad but the backfiring and the drivability problem would suggest the MAF sensor. ChevyThunder.com is a site I often reference for troubleshooting fuel injection problems. There is a wealth of information compiled there, check it out. Are you getting an SES light or have you tried to flash any codes? That would be the first thing I would try. HTH!
