Horn wiring help

I had to buy a steering column for my 89 camaro and the steering wheel was stuck on so it had to be cut off. The metal from it got stuck in there so the horn conatantly blows so I had to detatch it from the actual horn at the front of my car, so my question is, is there any way to put in a seperate button for just the horn beside my steering wheel? The relay for it keeps on buzzing at odd times. I cant take it out because I heard it was connected to the dome light. Anybody got any ideas??

Yes you can a wire a button to the horn relay

Remove the knee bolster.

The relay is to the right of the steering column.

Remove the stock wire going to pin J of the relay, then have the new button ground pin J of the relay.

The horn relay is not connected to the dome light unless it was done by a PO as part of a simple alarm system.

Happy Racing !

Re: Horn wiring help

The horn wiring is fairly simple. The relay is wired hot and only requires a ground source to energize it and sound the horn. Sounds like you got some metal shavings touching the horn wire and grounding it. If you choose to move the horn to a pushbutton some where else. It's simply cutting the wire for the horn from the harness at the bottom and running it to a switch and the other side to ground.
