High Amps 1983 z28

A few months back after pulling her out after 10 years of sitting the alternator needed replacement. I bought it from oreillys and it was the exact replacement. Since then the amps are high on the dash gauge. Not pegged out but 3/4 of the way to pegged. If I run the a/c radio and headlights the gauge is reading in the normal gauge range. I replaced the battery because I was told if the battery has a bad cell or cells the alternator has to work harder. Any good info would be very appreciated.

That gauge would be "volts" not amps.

As long as the actual volts does not exceed 14.6 Volts (14.4 is typical maximum), then there's now worry.

Best to check the charge voltage at the battery with a DMM to verify.

Thanks man, I just started driving it again and I remember when I was using it as a daily the volts and temp usually stated in the middle or horizontal rather.
