Fuel mixture gauge

The manifolds I installs on my 84' Berlinetta are off a 305 from an 89' IROC. The driver's side manifold has a single wire O2 sensor in it that Is kinda just plugging a hole right now. I wanted to get a fuel mixture gauge and put it to some use. Would that o2 sensor have the right output for an aftermarket gauge? I was thinking about using this one http://www.ebay.com/itm/APC-UNIVERSA...RR2mqr&vxp=mtr

Thanks guys,
KT

Re: Fuel mixture gauge

Also, when I fired the engine up last night for the first time, my tachometer buried itself right away. Not sure whats going on there.. It had a v8 in it originally so the resistor should be the same.

Re: Fuel mixture gauge

No, a stock O2 sensor will not work well for a gauge. The gauge needs a linear one whose output varies over a wide range; stock ones have a very sharp transition from rich to lean.

If "the engine" has a MSD or similar box on it, it needs an adapter harness that the stock tach wire then plugs into. The tach can't stay hooked to the coil.

Re: Fuel mixture gauge

I figured that 02 sensor wouldn't work. I read up on building a TBI harness for a car and I guess its only good for a point above or below 14.7:1 Its all stock ignition, just an HEI distributor. I took the condenser looking piece off the tach wire so i think thats why it jumped all the way up like that. Ill hook that back up and then plug it in.

Re: Fuel mixture gauge

You need a wideband O2 sensor to work well with that gauge.

Re: Fuel mixture gauge

ill start looking for one. I got pipes running down out of the manifolds now, its a shame that o2 sensor is just plugging a hole lol

Re: Fuel mixture gauge

i've got a cheap A/F gauge hooked up to the 1-wire o2 sensor. IDK exactly how accurate it is, but it does show changes during warm up, idle, full throttle, exhaust size changes, etc. just gives a rough idea if theres any problems. a guy suggested putting another one on the other side and using a 3 way switch to be able to check both sides. i never persued the idea, but its interesting.
