Got a wiper issue on a 92 RS...any ideas?

On my 92 RS the wipers will come on and go through settings as advertised, unfortunately half the time it wont shut off once its activated. The only way to stop them then, is to pull over and shut the car off then restart the engine which will put the wipers in the stow position as required.

My mechanic which has probably forgotten more about Camaro's than most know, suspects the circuit board inside the Wiper Motor. He hasnt been able to locate a replacement and buying a whole new wiper motor wont come with a circuit board as thats sold seperately.

Anyone else have this issue? Anyone got any ideas or a source for parts? If so, I am all ears!

Yep , I do have an idea ....

A few months ago Orangebird was doing the exact same thing , the wipers wouldn't shut off once turned on . The circuit board you mention also has a couple of mechanically driven switches on it , one of which being called , appropriately enough , the "parking switch" . You know where this is leading , right ? Yep , after I took the unit off of the back of the motor I took the retainer off of the big plastic gear so that the gear would come off allowing the circuit board to come out of the housing , and then I cleaned two of the dirtiest filthiest set of switch contacts I've seen in quite some time , and of course when reassembled the wipers shut off just fine , thanks to some happy clean switch contacts making contact again .

Now , yours very likely could be just like mine and be fixed with the cleaning of some cruddy switch contacts , or the gremlins could have snapped the switch arm or done any number of other nasty things to the parking switch's functioning , and it will take someone into "forensic electronics" to take it apart and have a look .

Dude! Thanks for the hot tip. I will definitely investigate that to see if thats the issue for sure. Hopefully thats the problem as we have replaced the switch already and that didnt fix it. We searched for another circuit board and couldnt locate one anywhere, junk yard, e-bay or a parts outlet. Thought about replacing the motor but would be stuck using the same circuit board in which case if thats the issue then we wasted money without a fix.

Love this car and would like to bring this neglected daily driver back to its former glory but man I can see its definitely going to be a project from hell in the process. I cant resist trying anyways since the sheet metal is perfect other than the pain job and the interior is pretty pristine and the engine and trans are working very well for a 25 year old car! But trying to get the few things that need to be fixed so it will pass safety inspection has me wondering if its ever gonna be worth it!
