82 Fuel Tank Sending Unit

I'm going to be restoring my 82 here soon and part of this will be replacing a damaged fuel tank. I've been looking around and cannot seem to find a sending unit assembly for 82, anybody have any light they can shed on this?

Re: 82 Fuel Tank Sending Unit

I could be wrong,..... but I'm pretty sure there is no aftermarket reproduction for the carb type sending unit.

IIRC the Fuel Injected style can be modified to work in a carb car,...... Gotta' stick a piece of ( gas resistant ) hose on the pick-up to make up for the area that the pump should be installed. (so the end of the hose is positioned at the same spot that the end of the pump would be ) Also be sure to find a way to install some type of "sock" or screen to fit on the end of the hose too !

Re: 82 Fuel Tank Sending Unit

You could also mount an inline electric pump and regulator to the system and just can the whole stock pump assembly. Would probably perform better as well and you could mount underneith the car where it wouldn't be seen. Just my 2cents

Re: 82 Fuel Tank Sending Unit

At this point I will be moving to fuel injection so an in tank pump won't be an issue, I'm just not sure which connector the existing unit uses. Either way I'm sure it can be adaptively wired.

It looks like the sending unit assembly is available at hawksmotorsports.com (with a very premium price tag of $320 and no pump of course)
