87 IROC problems with Rear Hatch Motor?
Hey there guys...okay so got me a new IROC...well old...but you know what I mean. The rear hatch seems to not be working as advertised. Okay so the third light does come on...which from what I gather means power is coming to the hatch? The switch from inside the car DOES pop the hatch yay right. I cant hear the latch or anything trying to work...you can shut the hatch manually...you kinda have to push in towards the car while pushing down, but she latches...think its probably the motor...honestly I have no issue just buying the replacement motor and housing...thoughts? Thanks

The brake light working means the brake lights has power and ground,.... has nothing to do with the PPD motor really.
The release solenoid is kinda' a stand alone item when it talking about function. Again; the fact that it works means it's getting power and ground OK and isn't related to how the PPD motor works.
There are a lot of reasons why a hatch motor doesn't "work". Could be a blown "LID" fuse, a bad reversing switch, a worn/busted plastic gear, a "jammed/busted guide(s), or a busted plastic gear housing. Best advise for Ya' is to remove the rear hatch interior panel to get a look at the motor to see if there is something obviously wrong. ( You might see something jammed-up in there or might be able to see a busted housing. )
There are small replacement parts available for these things,.. probably enough that a full rebuild can be done with mostly new parts. TDS ( a vendor here ) sells most/many of them. I've got a couple fully functional used PPD assemblies available too so you've got options depending on how you want to proceed in getting your hatch motor working again.

Call or email me and I'll give you instructions on testing the reversing switch. Most likely that is the problem.
