1992 camaro rear hatch wiring
So the person I bought this car from completely butchered everything, my rear hatch has never worked, doesn't open with the release button, doesn't pull down, nothing. First thing I did was pull off the rear interior panel in the trunk and noticed there is a connector down by the D/S where the lower plastic screw is, and nothing to connect it to. maybe someone knows what this connector is, it has two striped wires going to the rear light, and I think two or three blacks coming off of it one going to the hatch motor and others going back twards the car. So I need to know what this connector is and also where the relay/fuse is for the release switch and pulldown. Thanks.

There is nothing to plug it into. When i took the panel off everything was apart and unplugged and the black relay box that bolts to the hatch motor was just hanging there. I plugged it all back in bilted the black relay back on and it just automatically powered downwards. When i click the release switch on the center console. The relay clicks but nothing happens.

The plug looks like one of those rectangular relays but what confuses me is i just checked some of the wiring and all 3 wires besides the black one at that plug are hot. I checked the two pins on the black box that bolts to the motor and i have one hot pin but never get a ground when trying to move the lever up and down or hit the console switch

Yes it is. Its the extend relay. I found this wiring diagram earlier today. So i have come to the conclusion that the 3 way switch inside the pull down unit itself is stuck in the down posistion. Is this something anyone has taken apart and repaired? I havent tried yet since this is my daily driver and dont want to get stuck having to tie the trunk down

yeah mostly everyone has replaced theirs. try activating the pulldown motor manually. there is a trigger in the latching part you can press down on it and see if anything happens.

Re: 1992 camaro rear hatch wiring
Yea i see two movable levers. One right at the top with the 3 wire connector. I move that and nothing. And another a little deeper below the latch i move that and nothing. I have a hot at the motor all the time. It seems like all the wiring is right. And the motor will move up and down when i jump it. Can i get that little lever box seperatly? Im pretty sure thats the issue.

Yeah. This is the striker switch.
Just make sure it's that one. The pull down units where redesigned mid 1991. It could also be the reversing switch. If the motor goes up and down, then the motor, and gear are fine. You can try to wire it back, hit the hatch release, and then press on the striker and see if anything happens.

This is the reversing switch, which reverses the polarity on the motor.

Yea i have the late model motor with the plastic housing. What would be the best way to test the two switches before spending $140

Re: 1992 camaro rear hatch wiring
Not really sure. But there is a CORE CHARGE on the reversing switch for $50 (that's why it's $96).
You could try to see if you have power to the striker, then engage it and see if any current is going through.
If anything you can call Top-Down Solutions, or message lonsal on the forums. He's the owner of TDS

Unfortunately I am out of stock on both the re-manufactured 91.5-92 pull-down unit and the 91.5-92 reversing switch (which is why neither shows up on my web site currently).
