86 Camaro, Wiring help needed. Shifter

I recently purchased an 86 Z28 that someone swapped a 400 small block and 700r4 into.

I need a few things. I'm having an issue not able to turn the key to the off position. I can start it, but cannot shut it off without disconnecting Battery and alternator.

A little back story, It worked fine until I replaced the transmission. After installing the rebuild, It started fine. we went to shut it off and couldn't.

This being a manual originally, It has no key lock cable, so I started looking into the park/Neutral safety switch.

Once I pulled open the console, I saw a wiring nightmare. The gear selector has wires directly soldered to the leads where the harness should have been, just two wires, that go under the car and pop up under the engine compartment.

I purchased a parts car, I have a new gear shifter assembly, But I'd like to accomplish a few things:
1. Get the ignition to return to the OFF position. Trod from the ignition tumbler that runs into the solenoid on the column will not return past ACC

2. get a wiring color code or diagram for the wire harness that goes into the shifter assembly.

3. Since all of the TPI components were replaced by a carb set up and all of the AC hardware is gone, I'd like to know what I can eliminate form the wiring that was left behind.

I'm wondering if I could keep all of the lighting0\/turn signal wiring, and eliminate the rest outside of the cabin, I'll also have to redo some interior wiring, but that I can do easily enough. My time under the hood is all mechanical experience, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes I know I'm in over my head, but that's the fun of it.

THanks in advance.

You should have the key/shifter interlock cable, or a key release on the column. The release is a tab by the ignition cylinder, have to push it to lock the column.

Drew,

Thanks for the reply bud.
Definitely no tab release on the column.
Also no key lock cable. I think when they converted it from a manual, they rigged something in place of the key lock cable.

I need to see where it SHOULD connect under the column, and I think I can figure it out. I ended up getting a cable, just need to see where the other end goes, console end was easy to spot!
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again.

It would go right into the back side of the ignition switch...
