Tach help

Restoring a 90 RS. All gauges now work except the tach. It seems to be disconnected somewhere. Where should I look? I suspect something is unplugged. There was a lot of Budweiser engineering by the PO

Re: Tach help

Tach wire should be included in a 10 pin harness below the steering column I believe. that wire should be white and go all the way to the "Tach" post on the distributor, other end of the wire goes up to your gauge, cluster. Does the tach do ANYTHING when you're running the engine or does it just sit idle?

Re: Tach help

If it's always pinned at max then I would suspect the tach itself is bad. Mine used to do the same thing. To verify your tach is good/bad you can hook up a known good tach to the signal wire and see if it reads properly. As quick checks to ensure you don't have any wiring issues, run a continuity test between the spot where the wire inputs to the gauge cluster and the connector under the steering column, then from the steering column connector to the end that hooks up to the distributor.
