Hatchback pumps
Hatchback pumps
1991 Z28. All original. The two pumps on the rear hatch have never been replaced. For the past several years, I've had to open the hatch with the key or really hustle from inside the car and grab the hatch and lift it up after hitting the button on the console. If I don't, the hatch motor pulls it back closed. If I get new pumps for the rear hatch, will the problem be solved? Thanks.
Re: Hatchback pumps
Thanks so much! I figured that was the problem. These cars are apparently famous for inadequate shocks for both the hood (I've gone through several sets) and the hatch.
Re: Hatchback pumps
Nothing lasts forever. Original equipment started getting soft within 10 years. Aftermarket don't seem to last as long. Buy em from a local chain store with lifetime warranty, and photocopy + file your receipts. When they go bad again, pick up a new set.

Re: Hatchback pumps
If your car has a rear defroster make sure that the mounting eyelets have plastic bushings. They are required to insulate the hatch struts from the body.
Otherwise the next thread will be "why am I burning up defrost switches and/or popping fuses." Of which there are several current threads on this issue.
