Fuel gauge reads full all the time
I have a 1984 Camaro Z28 and the fuel gauge is reading full all of the time. I took the sending unit out of the tank and tested it with my ohm meter and there is no change in the reading when I move the float. Everything else on the sending unit is fine, its just that the fuel level part doesn't seem to be working. Is there a way to fix this or should the part be replaced?

Re: Fuel gauge reads full all the time
If you had the sending unit out than you most certainly must have gotten a good look at - and verified - that the ground wire was OK under there ??
Let's say you have a 1/2 tank of gas ----> the gauge shows 1/2 tank. If you then disconnect the tank sending unit from the wiring harness plug under the rear bumper the fuel gauge will shoot-up to show a (very) full tank. So; when / if there is a break in the fuel tank gauge circuit -ANYWHERE on the circuit - the gas gauge will show full.
There could be a break in that circuit in the actual gauge itself, on the clusters' printed circuit ( common ), in the dash harness, in the body wiring, in the tail light harness, or going in/thru the sending unit.
Just throwing this out there; The fuel level rheostat on the sending unit has a cover on it and a couple little metal tabs fold over to hold the cover in place. If you remove the cover you *MIGHT* find build-up/ crud inside or a bent/warped rheostat that's not within tolerance and not making good physical contact. I had this happen and (fixed it) once when using a sending unit that had been removed from the tank and left on the shelf for a couple years. I was lucky enough to check it before I final installed it during a Carb -to- FI swap. Just a tiny bit of crud on the rheostat "fingers" caused it not to work.

If you haven't already, i would think about changing out the fuel pump.
