Oil pressure gauge not working.
Oil pressure gauge not working.
I have a 1984 TA with a LG4 5.0L. The oil pressure gauge is stuck at 50psi whether the engine is running or not. It has a large can 3 wire oil pressure sender. Is there a way to tell if it’s the sender that’s bad or the gauge? I know I can just try a different sender but they are $50-60 and I’d rather not waste the money if I don’t have to unless someone knows where to buy one for a reasonable price. I know I can put a second gauge on but I’d like to get the original to work. Any help appreciated. Thank you!

the gauges rarely go bad it is a safe bet to replace the sender I believe this is the right one but double check about $30 on ebay

Is it on 50 even when the ignition is off? If so it is likely the gauge. If it is only when the ignition is on, it is likely the sender. You can get on Rock Auto

Re: Oil pressure gauge not working.
You could take the cluster lens off and see if the needle is just stuck. You'll likely need to swap out the gauge it's self though. It's not very difficult
Re: Oil pressure gauge not working.
The needle was moving around last night when it was running. It didn't seem like it was really reading anything though. I didn't get a chance to unhook it and see what happens. My choke light was on bright and the idle was a lot faster then normal so I guess I need an alternator too from what I've read.
