1988 GTA Digital Dash Question
Hi,
Recently picked up a 1988 Trans Am GTA with the digital dash. Super cool and everything works (thankfully). I do have one strange problem. When I start the car, it keeps saying "F Lamp" on the display. I did some research and that means the system thinks there is a front light out. I have checked and all work perfectly. I also checked connections for any corrosion, etc. and none. If I push the SYS CHECK button, after the car has been started, it does the self check and passes with PONTIAC showing in the display. However if I turn the car off, it starts again. I get a beep beep, "F lamp" shows up on the display.
Has anyone seen this and possible can give some directions what to try next? Headlamps are new, parklights work, Fog lights work....would really like to figure that out.
Thanks in advance.

Re: 1988 GTA Digital Dash Question
You can take out unit and clean the connections on the back and check all the metal prongs for corrosion. I had a few of the digits on my odometer that would flicker in and out and doing so seems to have fixed that issue. Only problem I have with my digital cluster now is my rpm gauge starts to malfunction after it the car warms up(20 minutes or so of driving) and will slowly climb until its pegged. These things were pretty advanced for their time an are known to have alot of issues and most people say cleaning the connections will resolve the issue.

Re: 1988 GTA Digital Dash Question
Thanks for that and good idea. I would like to learn more about these dashes such as do they have sensors that check these parts (like front lamp sensors, rear lamp sensors, door sensors, etc.) if so where are they located? If anyone has a detailed description or schematics of how the digital dash works that would be great. Thanks
