Rocker switch control for firebird head light motors
The wiring in my firebird is pretty well gutted. I have a parts car I could steal the wiring from, but this is more of a strip car with street tendencies. I'm looking at a universal harness that I can mount in the trunk/hatch area. My only issue are the pop up headlights. I thought a about getting the proper control module, but that seems like a waste. Also thought about using a sst of stripped out motors and just manually pulling them up when I need them and pushing them down when I don't. After a little research i found that the factory control module would basically trip a mini breaker when it sensed an over current and reset it when current goes the other way. Now i am thinking of installing a rocker switch similar to a power door switch and having the circuit protected with one of these auto resetting circuit breakers that fit in a standard fuse slot.

My question is does anyone know how much current the motors pull under normal load and locked load? Need this to make sure I get the right size breaker.

You could also put sensor switches in the buckets to kill the circuit for up/down when it hits it. If you use reed switches vs mechanical they should last a while.

I have an amp meter if no one gets back to you I'll try to remember to measure it this weekend. I have a 4th gen module laying around from my donor car. It wasn't wired the same though as the 3ed gen but probably uses the same components you could probably pick one of those up cheaply enough crack it open and look up the parts on digikey or mouser and base it off the spec sheet.
You may want to email Top Down solutions, he rebuilds them (or use to) so he probably knows the parts they used and their ratings.
