Hey everyone I have frequented the forums for the past couple weeks and figured someone would be knowledgeable enough to have dealt with this issue. Anyways a month ago i bought a 1982 z28 cfi that isnt in bad condition underside is 0retty clean and just had a few simple issues that need fixing. I paid $500 bucks for it because the guy who was selling it didnt like the welded in seat track on the passenger side and owns way more expensive cars so he just wanted to be rid of it. I think it was a steal for 500 with only 99000 miles and a fairly recent paint job. Also had some other new miscellaneous parts. Anyways a week or two ago I found that the hood louvers do not open as they are supposed to. I tested for ground which was fine and then tested for 12v while I had my buddy put it to the floor for a couple seconds... Nothing no twelve volts. After this I tested the solenoid which opens the louvers and they do open with 12v of power. I then traced the wire to the rear left side of the engine bay checking for power at a second connector there still nothing. Can anyone tell me how this system works and is routed and what the common issue is here. I know most people dont like the cfi but I happen to have a soft spot for it and like the functional hood louvers. Thanks -Ivan.
Following. You've done everything I was going to suggest already. Good luck! Functioning hood flaps are the best part of a CFI. Post pics when you get a chance.
Ok so as far as i understand when the ecm puts out 12v on the grey/red wire it powers the relay and sends power up to the solenoid? The wire i was testing was the black/orange wire. Would you happen to know the location of the hood louver relay? is there a relay box in the 82? thanks.
Ok sorry for bringing this back from the dead. Ended up putting a bunch of work into the car in the past few weeks after its sat from my original post. Even threw in some 4th gen seats and what not in her since she had a gutted interior. Only thing i have not fixed yet on it is the stupid hood louvers. Gotta be something i'm doing wrong here. Can you tell me where the relay is so i can back test to the relay. thanks.
