1988 iroc No Electrical.

I bought my 88 IROC-Z28 5.7 liter with 05,7930 original miles back in 2006. Unfortunately, it has been parked since. Because of me needing to have two spine surgeries. The last of which was in 2013. Fast forward to today. My future son an law who is a mechanic came over and we started talking about getting my Camaro going. So I took the AC Delco battery. That I had bought back in 2006 for the Camaro and tried charging it up. I then put it back in the Camaro and tried to turn it over to see if it might start lol. Well, nothing happened. Turned on the headlight switch still nothing? Have no taillights blinkers headlights or horn. Should I start by getting a new battery? Thank's for the help,

Check battery voltage first. This could be a blown fusable link at the starter.

2006 battery is likely sulfated and no good. Slow charge it and test.

A battery left neglected/discharged for 13 years is electrically inert by now , and if the car truly hasn't run in 13 years he's gonna have way bigger fish to fry than a ghost battery that dates to the Bush administration . Namely , wait till he finds out what kinds of dinosaurs the fuel has turned back into , from the tank all the way to the injectors ....

Re: 1988 iroc No Electrical.

I will check the fusible link and slow charge the battery. I have used the battery over the years to run my cb and ham radio gear inside. So it hasn't been out in the cold and heat over the years. I was also thinking about the fuel in the tank had about 12 gal left in it before the starter no longer worked because of setting. I am going to replace the fuel and brake lines and drain also clean the tank. Change the oil, antifreeze, fuel filter, plugs, plug wire, air filter, belt radiator hoses, injectors, Transmission fluid, The part that scares me the most is am I going to have oil leaks? Also have New Tires, Replacing the cover that holds the headlights in place, Going to need to find a new dash and dash pad both have cracks in them. I hope there is not to much more I will need to get it running? Thank's guy's for the info.

I also repaired CB radios and own SWL equipment.

I understand your interest in the scientific approach to making the battery last forever.

You might still be able to power the communications gear with it, however a starter motor in the cold can require hundreds of amps.

Keep the old battery for the ham-shack, but buy a new one for the car.

Happy Racing !

Funny Car Fun Fact: To exceed 300mph in a few seconds funnys must accelerate at an average of over 4G's. But in reaching 200 mph well before 1/2 track, launch acceleration is closer to 8G's.
