Rear Hatch latch/motor stuck 'Up'

Hey all, was wondering if anyone would be able to help.

the motor on my rear hatch has got stuck - i've seen many threads about it being stuck in the 'down' position (and how to reset it by hitting the latch) but none regarding my problem - it's stuck in the 'up' position, meaning the boot doesn't seal.

The problem first started a couple of months ago and I found that if I drove the car and it hit a bump, the jolt would kick the mechanism into gear and it'd pull the rear hatch down. However now, nothing. I've tried the switch on top and the reversing switch, to no effect - the lights are all still on around it so the fuse/power supply seems to be good.

What would most likely be the problem here - has the motor seized? Do I need a new one?

Any more info/photos I can provide that'd be helpful, i'm more than happy to. I'm still trying to figure this amazing car out so this forum has been invaluable! Thanks in advance from the UK!

Most likely the problem is a bad reversing switch. I made a quick sketch of how to test the switch contacts for continuity. Test your switch as shown for continuity using a test light or multimeter. If you get an open instead of continuity you've found your problem.
