1988 T/A and 1984 Firebird headlight issues
Hello,
Put in 2 new headlamp motors in 88 T/A Tojan, and the driver side is working fine. The passenger side goes up when headlights are turned off, and then goes down when lights are turned on (headlight is on, but is aiming down). I have tried all sorts of things by spinning the manual ***** and trying to reset it, but nothing is working that I have tried. Is there a way to reset something that will make both headlights work as they should?
Simultaneously, I put in 2 new rebuilt headlamp motors on a 1984 FB S/E, and everything was working fine. I tested them about 8 times and it went up and down fine as required. On the 9th time, I turn on the headlights and nothing, the headlights don't come up at all (headlights do turn on). I thought I had this fixed, unplugged the wires and plug them back in, turned off the battery a couple of times, and nothing...No blown fuses that I can see from underneath the panel....
My level of frustration with these 2 cars are so high right now, you cannot imagine. As much as I love FB/TA's, I absolutely despise these headlamp motors...
Any insight will be greatly appreciated, maybe a new headlight control module?

For the one that works in reverse, it sounds like the power leads could be reversed in the connector.
These are bi-directional DC motors, so reversing the polarity reverses the rotational direction.
And manufacturing Q-A often leaves something to be desired.
IF you can, Rube Goldberg some test leads, to reverse the connections between the motor
plug, & wiring harness plug. Move the motor by hand to be in the same position as the
correct motor, & then test. If this solves the problem, cleanest solution will be to reverse
the leads in offending motor plug. Pin removal from the connector is doable, but will need
some unique tools.
Good luck.

Hello Travlr, thanks for your response. On the 88 Tojan, I did cut the passenger motor wires and connected the green to the gray and the gray to the green, and voila, problem solved, headlights now work as they should, you were right, and I also read in several places online that remanufactured motors are sometimes problematic this way.
as for the 1984, i still haven't figured out why both lights will not go up after getting 2 rebuilt motors installed and working fine for about 7 times and then abruptly stopped working.. I went ahead and put in an old motor to see what would happen, and the old motor started immediately to spin and would not stop, whether or not the headlights button was on or not. I tried both sides, same issue. Prior to this, also noticed that the battery had drained, could have been related to headlamp motor constantly spinning, who knows exactly. The battery hasn't drained since the 2 new headlamp motors were put in.
I have been reading around and it sounds like the headlight relay would need to be replaced. does anyone have any other ideas/suggestions?
Thanks!
