My 85 Z28 lights up all 4 headlights very dimly when I switch to low beam. The high beams work fine. The dimmer switch doesn't have slack in it or stick. Nice, firm clicks either way. Anyone ever see anything like this and have an idea if it's just a bad dimer switch, or what it might be?

It's the ground wires near the headlights, or the plugs on the back of the bulbs, specifically the ground terminals on the low beam bulbs.
Great! That should be an easy fix. I'll check it out when it cools off a bit. We're in a heat advisory right now and for good reason!
I cleaned up contacts and repair one wire and they work now. The drivers side low beam headlight is real dim still. Guessing it is just a bad headlight. The other three work great.

Not impossible for it to be bad, however it is EXTREMELY rare for a normal headlight to become suddenly much dimmer than a new one.Originally Posted by Randysmojo

plus side.
(It’s always a good idea to put a fuse in series with a test jumper in case you accidentally touch the wrong thing. In this case a 10 amp fuse is appropriate)

How bout those people too scared to drive without headlights in the daytime
I actually did all that. No change on that one. A new one isn't too much so I'll change it out. I could always try that one in the other side that is working to see if it is still dim there too.
