Re: Odometer Stopped Working
Thanks for posting that link TTOP350. I am going through the same issue. My VSS is good, my speedometer works, cruise control works. I have a replacement cluster and installed and still have the same symptom. I believe its the gears as stated in the link https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/inte...roken-but.html
These are getting old and vintage nylon gears are likely cracking, the rotating numbers are not as easily turned as they once might. Virginia requires the odometer to work, basically so they can validate the mileage at the annual inspections. But even with that I like all my features to function. Yep.
That thread mentions a Speedometer Scott. I've used advanced search and get way too many hits on 'scott' and speedometer.
Anyone one have a lead on this person. I'm all in sending one of these clusters out.

Re: Odometer Stopped Working
FYI, it's not always broken. When my odo stopped working I disassembled and found the factory "grease" had turned to glue. A thorough cleaning and it works fine. Also applied a bit of silicone lube. Hopefully that was the right thing to use.

Thanks for that comment rt66er. I'll pull the replacement cluster apart apart and see what its gears look like. I'll post back what I find. -Gerry

Re: Odometer Stopped Working
Well... pulled the replacement cluster and my original cluster apart, both odometer gear sets look good, look clean. No feel for how to test the operation of those gears,
The wiring on the speedometer/odometer assembly has a small circuit board tucked in above it, attached to the white plastic cluster housing . It has red and black power wires and multi-signal cable going to the speedo/odo assembly. I suppose that circuit board could be bad. I suppose the gears could just be stuck, but a little subtle prodding with a wooden handle que tip gives no real tactile feedback.
Found an online repair outfit, do not know anything about them. I've sent a note off to them.

Will probably send the replacement cluster off to them, it is in a little better shape. I'll ask them to reset the mileage to my OE mileage.
Will post back when I hear more.

Re: Odometer Stopped Working
Thanks Drew, its always helpful to know the various parts here that can fail. At this point I'm going to wait until I hear from the folks at ATS (link is above). Hoping to be able to ship one of the clusters to them and get a decent turnaround time. -Gerry

Re: Odometer Stopped Working
Have not heard from the people at ATS Solutions. Bruce Hawkins told me to use Gentry @ http://www.autoinstruments.com/ which is in Martinsville, VA. A few hours drive from me here in Suffolk, VA. I've reached out to them. Hope to hear something today. -Gerry

Re: Odometer Stopped Working
Well... Auto Instruments in Martinsville only works on mechanical clusters. Fellow there named Gentry suggests Southern Electronics in Richmond, VA.

Re: Odometer Stopped Working
Southern Electronics in Richmond Virginia called to say they have fixed my 89 GTA cluster and are sending it back via UPS. $279 and they paid shipping both ways. Excellent service, I'll post back when its in and tested here. Just got a pop up from UPS saying it will be here tomorrow, but hey... this shop in Richmond is only 80 miles from me here in Suffolk.

Re: Odometer Stopped Working
Odometer works great now. They replaced the main gear and shaft of the odometer. Seems they got something with the speedometer changed... with the key off the speedometer sits at 32 mph. Works from that point up going around the block here. So... called and they were very apologetic, got another UPS label off their website and its on its way back.
