Headlights won't turn on or flip up

I have 1992 3.1 v6 auto trans firebird and my headlights won't turn on or flip up. I'm a little new to working on cars so please bare with me. When I first got the car in June of 2019, both the headlights turned on but only my passenger side flipped up (driver side has a bad Motor). The car sat for a little while because I was doing and some work on the engine. when I moved it where it is now, neither of the headlights turned on and neither of them flipped up. The first thing I did was check the fuse but that was fine. next I did a little bit of searching online and found that the headlight module sometimes has bad solders so I re-soldered the ones that looked a little iffy but that didn't fix it. Then I tried getting a new headlight switch but that didn't fix it. I need to get these headlights working because I live in Ohio and I bought this car in Indiana so In order to get the title transfered, it needs a safety inspection. Even if there where a way to get passed that with no working headlights, it'd still be nice to have them working. If anybody knows anyway to help me, please do so. It would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Headlights won't turn on or flip up

Time to bust out the voltmeter (or 12V automotive test light) !

Using this handy diagram the first check should be the red wire at the headlight switch , Is there power there ? If no , check the fusible link "A" shown feeding the red wire in the diagram . If yes , turn on the light switch and check the yellow wire , if no the switch is bad , if yes the next check will be the tan (low beam) or light green (high beam) wires going to the headlight bulbs themselves from the high/low beam switch . It's a fairly simple circuit and should be pretty easy to chase through to find where the power is and is not ....

That diagram will probably work if you're not easily distracted. The GM/Helm Service Manual has the pop-up circuit on one diagram, and the headlights on the other, another for the fog lights, another still for the tail lights, all with diagnostic charts to eliminate possibilities in a logical manner.

Re: Headlights won't turn on or flip up

At first I thought the switch was bad but it turns out that power just wasn't going to it. After finding this out, I checked the fuse box to see if I missed a blown fuse but I didn't. Turns out Power isn't go to that specific fuse at all. I decided that I didn't want to deal with that quite yet so to get me by I found a random hot wire under the hood that was already exposed (previous owners didn't car about this car much) and I just ran wire from that random hot wire, through my firewall, and connected it to my switch. My headlights working and I didn't have to spend a dime, I see it as a job well done.

I'll try to get some pictures later
