Maybe VATS problem

I have an 89 iroc 5.7L. Good battery, good starter, good alternator. The car will start once and usually a second time but that's about it unless I jump the car. The security light does come on but it goes away after a couple of seconds everytime. I've been reading a lot about the VATS but my key does not have resistors. Any Suggestions?

Re: Maybe VATS problem

So when you say the car won't start, does that mean,

a) the starter won't crank
b) starter cranks but engine won't run

The starter ticks, it sounds like it cranks.

Re: Maybe VATS problem

Not a VATS issue. Sounds like a heat soaked starter issue. If it was VATS your security light will stay on and have no power to the starter when you turn the key just nothing.
