cruise control

Hi guys,
Just joined the group. Just recently purchased a 92 RS. It doesn't have cruise control... My question is: is there a cruise control module already in the steering column from the factory? & can I just purchase an accessary turn signal arm, & plug in the cruise control? If I can't do that, can anyone tell me what I need to do to have cruise control?
Thank you!

Re: cruise control

No, it's not that easy. I just added a cruise control to a buddys 92 firebird from a 91 donor car two weeks ago. You need the servo with bracket in the engine bay, the correct cable from the servo to the throttle body, the wiring harness from the servo to the steering column and to the control module, the cruise control module itself with bracket, the brake switch for cruise control cars, the turn signal lever and a complete upper steering column including the wiper/washer switch. The only thing, that is pre-installed from the factory, is the wiring from the wiper/washer connector down the steering column to the connector behind the passenger kickpanel. Everything else has to be added from a donor car. The job took me about four hours including three-times disassembling of the upper steering column because of the damn hi/lo beam rod thing... man, what a dumb construction.
For a newbie it will definitely be a hard job. Best is, you have a donor from 91 or 92 (identical cruise control wiring) with factory cruise control to swap this over to your car.

JC,
Thank you for the detailed response! well, lol, I figured it wouldn't be as easy as I was hoping. So I guess I will just enjoy driving it the way it is!
