Fog light upgrade

Has anyone swapped their fog lights out for small led pods/light bars? Can you jus snip the wires and hook them in? I think itd be the best way to upgrade my lights and not change the look too much or run new electrical.

Hi Brandon, welcome to TGO !

First and foremost, when asking questions here about your car, it would be really helpful to people trying to help you if you put what you've got in your user profile. If you look under my name for instance you'll see I've got an 89 Firebird. Knowing if your's is a Camaro or Firebird and what year it is will focus the answers strictly toward your car.

Now with that said, oh hell yeah of course lots of people here have done just about every headligh/foglight mod you can think of and both here in the electrical subforum as well as in the body subforum you'll find all kinds of posts about it. My only generalization I can offer is that when you talk of snipping wires, a virgin harness is only virgin till someone takes the wirecutters to it, and then it's just another cut harness on it's way to becoming something you don't want. Make sure if you cut anything it's to cut the wires from the old fogs themselves such that you use the old fog's wires and connectors to connect your new fogs to your cars uncut harness.

Just like South Park , the car's wiring harnesses should always remain "Bigger, Longer, and UNCUT" ......

Re: Fog light upgrade

I am waiting on backordered lights now to do just this.
I ordered Diode Dynamics SS2 pods, I can't say enough about their products. Years ago I replaced the bulbs with Supernova led's from headlight revolution. Awful light output, they look great colorwise, but a candle would be brighter. These SS2's in fog pattern will put out a fantastic bright wall of light right where it needs to go, great cutoff for fog pattern.
I already changed my headlights out to Trucklite 5x7 and it's a night and day difference in light output driving at night. When these pods get installed the car will have amazing modern light out in front (and sides) at night.

So your thought is maybe to lean to the Diode Dynamics wiring harness and switch and just forget about the stock wiring if given a choice in best scenerio??
... being the stock wiring is 30+ years old now....
