Cruise control wire routing

So, due to it being very worn and being in the column for something else, I'm trying to replace my turn signal stalk (with cc). Did it the right way with tying a wire on the end of the stalk harness so I could just pull the new harness through with it, but it pulled off the old harness mid-way. Now I'm trying to route the new harness down the column and I want to make sure it gets routed correctly (ie it won't get damaged), but I'm also having a problem getting the connector to get past the initial area near where it enters the column cover.

Here's a somewhat overall view of where the Hartnett is going in

Closer up, you can see I've got it routed under the signal switch harness, is this right?

I do have the metal wire feed all the way through to the bottom of the column at this point, but can't get the connector to pull the rest of the way, it's only a couple inches in at this point. Anyway, I'll be trying again agree I get home from work, and try not to leave it too late like last night.

Re: Cruise control wire routing

When ive done this in the past i just push the cable till it hits something. Then i just slightly pull it back and forth maybe an inch or so, while moving the cable left to right. Changing the tilt up/down usually helps some. There is also a flat sleeve the cable fits into, i take that out so its not in the way. The re-install once the cable comes out the bottom of the column.

Thanks for the reply, I was able to get it to pull through yesterday after I got back from work. I think it was a little more time, plus I had done what you said about changing the tilt angle, who knows what actually got it to go through. All I know is that the stalk is now the newest looking part in the car, and it works. Unfortunately, my long shot hope that it would also get my cruise control to work too failed. It hasn't worked since I did the engine swap, so I am not surprised. I'll have to keep digging at that.

Check your vacuum lines from the brake switch going to the servo in the engine bay and also the vacuum lines to the reservoir ball under the left batt tray. Plus the wire hare harness thats bundled with the big vacuum line from the brake switch. Is the cable from the servo connected to the carb linkage?

Re: Cruise control wire routing

I do have the linkage hooked up to the throttle body, last time I checked (which is admittedly a while ago now) the vacuum lines seemed fine. That being said, it would probably be worth pulling a vacuum on it to check the integrity of the system. I'll probably need to replace my washer lines and/or pump too, tried that yesterday when the stalk went in, describing what came out as a trickle might be over selling it.

On a separate but related topic, I really need to get the garage cleared out so I can get this thing inside. The moving boxes take up a lot of room.
