Just bought a ‘92 RS, wiring is butchered..

Just bought a 1992 RS, non running. I am 17, currently in high school and attending a vo-tech for automotive. This is where all the work on the car will be done, at school, as my parents will not allow me to have two vehicles parked at the house.

I am trying to get a game plan to wire this car up. It does not have the original motor, I believe it is a 305 out of a trans am. Numbers on the back of the block are 14093627. In the engine bay, most if not all wiring looks to be hacked up pretty good. I will be going carburetor; have an edelbrock 650 waiting to be rebuilt. All ac components have been ripped out of the firewall, so all in all it should be a pretty simple harness. Correct me if I am wrong, but essentially all that will needed wired is power to starter, remote to starter, power to distributor, alternator, battery leads, headlights and turn signals. Everything past the firewall should be fine, wires going to column are all present. I just need help deciding whether to make it work with what I’ve got, buy a whole new harness and delete what isn’t needed, or can I have one made specifically for what I need? Thanks

I would buy a new harness.

I have a 92 camaro factory service manual so if you need any diagrams, let me know.

Take a look at Austin thirdgen for wiring. You may want to save up and or visit your local junk yards and buy some new harnesses. Is your body harness (resides under your dash) a wreck too? However, if you truly want to enhance your education, you can follow the wiring diagrams and trace each circuit down for repair. Tedious is an understatement, but the amount you will learn will be priceless.

This seems to be the obvious way to go, but if able to salvage what is here I am up to the challenge. I need to just start putting the car together to see where I’m really at with wiring.

No, everything past the firewall into the passenger compartment is okay.
