Wires under center console

Just bought a 91 Camaro RS. Base everything. I just took the center console out and wondering if I could get help identifying these wires and connector beside the brake and under the glove box.

There's a black, orange, brown to a connector, a single green, and a single brown. The single green and brown may be trunk release? Thanks for the help.

Re: Wires under center console

Orange and Black is the center console light I believe. The tan wire with the black connector is the trunk release, and the **** connector would be power window.

Pretty sure that the dark green wire activates the reverse lights.

Re: Wires under center console

The reverse lights are wired to the NSS on the auto shifter, or through the C100 on manuals, so it's not that. None of the above are for power windows, that would be it's own sub-harness.

Orange is 12v constant, black is ground, good bet that's the hatch release relay plug.

Couldn't tell you on the other two wires. It's possible they may be related to the hatch release switch, but I'd expect two wires in a single connector in that case. My 91 Camaro Service Manual is currently MIA after my latest move.

Re: Wires under center console

I was able to figure this one out. The connector with black, orange, and brown wire is the hatch release relay connector. I was able to get a relay and install. The brown and green wires I believe are for the hatch release button. I don't have a button, so can't confirm they fit the connection, but I was able to short them together to toggle the black wire in the hatch leading to the hatch release solenoid. Car originally didn't have hatchnreleass but I rebuilt one from a parts car with it and now I have hatch release when I get a button and figure out how to cut a hole for it.

Thanks for the input.

Just one more comment. I did test the switch to confirm the hatch release works in Park but will not work when in gear.

Re: Wires under center console

The heavy gauge green wire should be connected to the connector that the heavy gauge brown is. That is the connection for the safety switch that would be mounted on the clutch for a manual transmission.
